Registration

  • KDFGC Handgun Qualification Course

Before members can shoot on a KDFGC pistol range UNSUPERVISED, they must complete the Handgun Safety Qualification Course.  The course includes range and firearm safety instruction including dry and live fire practice.  Following the course is a Qualification Test where you demonstrate the skills learned in the course.

  • Meet at Club Office

TIME:

  • Saturdays.  ~2.5 hours, 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM depending on number of participants. Max is 5.

COST: 

  • $25 per person. 
  • No refunds for no shows.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current KDFGC Membership
  • Quality ear and eye protection
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear for shooting
  • Pistol Qualifiers
    • Current PAL (Restricted) and ATT
    • Semi-auto pistol with multiple magazines (preferred) or a revolver 
    • Cleaning rod
    • Paper target (approx 12 inches) and stapler
    • Lawful case and locks for handgun transport 
    • At least 40 rounds of correct ammunition for handgun
    • Masking tape for patching targets

  • Review of Range Rules and Procedures
    • Firing Line and Safety Line
    • Casing and Uncasing Firearms
    • Aimed and Accurate Fire
    • Approved Targets
  • Review of Firearm Safety on the Range
    • Review fundamentals of ACTS and PROVE
    • Instructor demonstration of grip, load, dry fire, mag change, and make safe on range
    • Instructor demonstration of clearing of malfunctions
  • Review of Range Officer Responsibilities and Commands
    • Being a Range Officer
    • Commands
      • Cease Fire ("Range Cold")
      • Commence Fire ("Range Hot")
      • Check targets
    • Emergencies
  • Student Dummy/Dry Fire Demonstration of Shooting Fundamentals
    • Grip, load, dry fire, mag change, make firearm safe on range
    • Clearing of malfunctions
  • Student Live Fire Practice
    • Grip, load, dry fire, mag change, make firearm safe on range
    • Live fire engagement a 12” target at 10 yards
  • Student RO Practice
    • Cease Fire ("Range Cold")
    • Commence Fire ("Range Hot")
    • Check Targets
  • Handgun Safety Qualification Test
